Po-Chen Chang, a native of Taiwan, is an accomplished cellist and dedicated educator, active as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral performer. He has given solo recitals throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia, and made his Carnegie Hall debut with his piano trio. He has performed at numerous international festivals and with orchestras including the Texas Music Festival Orchestra, Billings Symphony Orchestra, Fort Wayne Philharmonic, Orchestra Indiana, Lansing Symphony Orchestra, and Jackson Symphony Orchestra. He currently holds tenured positions with the Flint Symphony Orchestra and the Battle Creek Symphony Orchestra.
Po-Chen is currently pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts in Cello Performance at Michigan State University under Professor Suren Bagratuni. At MSU, he served as a graduate teaching assistant, providing individual cello instruction and coaching youth orchestra sections throughout the Lansing area. He has also been invited to coach cello sections for the Grand Rapids Youth Symphony, Okemos High School, and St. Johns Middle/High School orchestras.
As a teacher, Po-Chen is proud of his students’ achievements. His students have been accepted into prestigious programs and ensembles, including the Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, Western Michigan University’s music program, and the Detroit Symphony Orchestra’s Civic Youth Ensembles.
He holds both a Master’s degree and Artist Diploma from Ball State University, where he studied with Dr. Peter Opie. He has participated in masterclasses with renowned cellists such as Richard Aaron, Alvin Wong, Austin Huntington, Daniel Veis, and Stephan Braun.
