A native of Hong Kong, Marilyn Fung graduated from the Eastman School of Music, the Juilliard School, and received her Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Michigan. Currently also the assistant principal bass of the Windsor Symphony (Ontario), she has performed with
the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony Orchestra, Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra, Fort Wayne Philharmonic Orchestra, to name a few. She has also participated in various orchestra tours to such countries and cities as Israel and Cyprus, England and France, Singapore, Scotland and Newfoundland.
As an early music performer on viola da gamba and violone, she is a member of the Fort Wayne Bach Collegium, the Nota Bene Players and Singers, participated in the Toronto Bach Festival, Early Music Alberta, Bloomington Early Music Festival, the Grand River Baroque Festival, the Ann Arbor Academy of Early Music series and Boston Early Music Festival. She has performed with Pomerium, Scaramella, Dark Horse Consort, Audivi, Michigan Bach Collective, Mountainside Baroque, Burning River Baroque, New Comma Baroque, Madison Bach Musicians, Wisconsin Baroque Ensemble, Indianapolis Baroque Orchestra, Generation Harmonique, the Bach Institute at Valparaiso University, Milwaukee’s Ensemble Musical Offering, Spire Chamber Ensemble in Kansas City, Cardinal Consort of Viols, Talisker Players in Toronto and the Waterloo-based Greensleaves.
Dr. Fung is also an experienced educator, having taught at the University of Windsor, Flint Institute of Music, University of Michigan All-State Program at Interlochen, the Hong Kong Academy for the Performing Arts and St. Stephen’s Girls’ College. She has also coached members of The National Youth Orchestra of Iceland, and at the Zukofsky Seminar in Reykjavik, Iceland.
When she is not performing, traveling to see the world is Marilyn's favorite pastime.
