Ever wanted to play a band instrument, or pick one back up? It is never too late to start.

A Program of the Traverse City Philharmonic

This program is for adults with little to no prior musical experience who want to learn a band instrument. We cover the fundamentals of reading music, instrument handling, basic technique, and ensemble playing in a supportive, no-pressure environment. No experience required, just a willingness to learn and have fun.

Beginners

Act 2: Adult Beginning Band

Ready to make music? Our beginning band session is for true beginners with little to no experience. Registration is open now.

Intermediate

Act 3: Adult Intermediate Band

For adults with at least a year on their instrument who want to keep growing, building on the fundamentals with more advanced technique and ensemble playing.

Peter DeneenDirector, Act 2 & 3 Adult BandPeter Deneen led the bands at Traverse City East Middle School from 1992 to 2024 and was named Member Emeritus by the Michigan School Band & Orchestra Association in 2025. A saxophonist with the Traverse City Philharmonic and Encore Symphonic Winds, he founded and leads the Act 2 Adult Band program.
